The best thing about the renewed awareness in the environment is that going green can also save you green…a lot of green. There are a lot of things you can do to save energy that will not only help the world but your monetary health too. A number of things are fairly elaborate and might cost a little money, and other’s are very straightforward. No matter which alternative you choose, you should start today.

Some of the simpler things you can do to help the environment are to make sure your car is tuned up, check your tire pressure, combine errands so you don’t have to backtrack. These simple things can help you get better fuel economy as well as save harmful emissions.

Around your home simple things like recycling your empty pop cans and papers, adding insulation, keeping your thermostat low, and using caulk to seal out drafts can also save you money.

If you had something a little more significant in mind, building your own wind energy power turbine might be a good option for you. Despite what you may imagine, you don’t have to build a huge wind mill in your backyard.

There are ‘home sized’ turbines offered that not only come in smaller sizes but can even come in several shapes and sizes. Some of these turbines truly look like a modern carving and some can be mounted right on your roof.

One small wind turbine can cut the amount of electricity you have to buy from your utility company by up to 60%. That can add up to a very noteworthy savings. Turbines can be built for around $200 in a matter of a few days.

Going green can be as uncomplicated or as elaborate as you want it to be. The important thing is that you decide on a course of action and then go for it. You will feel really good knowing that not only are you saving money, but you’re saving the planet too.

Alternative Energy- What Options Do You Have?

There is countless information floating around about the advantages of using alternative energy. But what does that signify precisely? And how can you benefit by saving money and helping the environment?

There are several types of alternative sources of energy. Some of the more common and well known are: wind power and solar power. You could use one or a mixture of both. Here are a few pros and cons of each source of energy.

1. Wind power. You’ve doubtless driven by a huge field of giant wind mill looking things. These windmills are called wind turbines. They produce and store electricity. The good thing about this source of energy is that it’s free, abundant, and completely ‘green’.

The bad thing about turbines is that you will require a lot of them to power your home and they can take up quite a lot of room.

2. Solar energy. Solar panels convert the energy of the sun into usable electricity. The pros of solar energy is that it’s clean, renewable, and free.

The cons are that you need sunlight so some climates won’t provide as much electricity as others and you will need many solar panels in order to get a lot of energy.

If you can ever get to the point where you can generate more electricity than you require you can essentially make money by selling your excess electricity back to the power companies. It would be nice for a change to have them pay you, wouldn’t it?

The main thing is that using a few of these alternative energy sources can help you lower your energy bill, help out the environment, and if you have enough room you could in fact create enough electricity to go ‘off the grid’ entirely and not have to pay for electricity at all.

Wind Power Energy An Alternative Energy Choice For Your House

Not only is the United States government getting into the act of using renewable energy sources, but today’s major corporations are being motivated to latch onto this amazing renewable energy source. You and I know it as the common every day breeze, which blows around us, when we step outside our home or place of business. Just think about it for a minute and you will soon realize you have taken advantage of this renewable wind power energy source your whole life.

If you take pleasure in going sailing, you merely hoist the sail on your ketch or a much bigger sloop and off you go. As a matter of fact wind power energy was the only power known to mankind for thousands of centuries. Next when you stop and think about it, when you were just a kid, you found yourself using the blowing breeze to cool yourself down. In fact the only air conditioner for everybody was the wind.

Now thanks to new technology, not only can you use the breeze again for cooling your home, but you can use it to furnish the majority of the electrical energy you have to have to run the lights, appliances, heating and air conditioning units in your house.

If you noticed I used the term new technology above, but in fact this technology has been around for more years than you and I can count. Do you know what it’s called? Sure you do, the “Windmill”, ?Wind Turbine? or Wind Machine. Massive corporations such as Johnson and Johnson, Wal-Mart and many others are contracting with private ?Wind Farms? or building their own wind farm to power their factories and retail outlets.

But the great thing is you and I can take advantage of this phenomenal source of wind power energy too. Depending where you live it is possible for you to have your very own wind turbine. In fact if you install one you may be able to sell your excess power back to the electrical company for a profit.

To be quite honest though, that is not very likely unless you really decide to build quite a few wind turbines along with some solar panels but the fact is you can certainly save some cash on your own utility bills.

Wind Power Energy Is It A Sensible Way To Save Energy, And The Planet?

Now more than ever we are attempting to uncover ways to save money and we are more troubled with the outcome we have on our environment. Stuck between the meltdown of the economy and the desire to ‘go green’ we are looking at wind power energy with more interest than ever before.

There are a lot of sources of renewable energy for you to use. Many of them can be low-cost to start up, although there will be some initial expense and it will take time, usually only a matter of months, to get back your initial investment.

Two of the most universal sources of renewable energy for home use are solar power and wind power. Both can be set up fairly effortlessly by you.

To produce power from the wind a wind turbine is what you will have to have. These look like windmills and they come in several sizes, and even various shapes. The wind is turned into electricity and can be stored in a battery to use at a later time.

The downside is that in order to create enough electricity for your home you would have to have a lot of turbines, and we are not at the point yet where we have an efficient means of storing and converting the energy.

Solar power is another good way to save some energy costs. These consist of panels on the roof, or anywhere they will get a lot of sunlight, and they convert sunlight into energy. As is the case with turbines you will require a lot of panels to provide enough electricity to run your home.

Both of these sources of energy are real and practical for home use. Don’t expect to get entirely off the grid just by putting up a wind energy turbine or two and some solar panels, but you can expect to save some cash.

As technology moves forward, the storage and conversion methods will get better as well making these forms of renewable energy even more cost effective than they are today.

Using wind power energy along with solar panels can and will save you some money on your energy bills while at the same time serving to save our planet.

You can set these up in just a couple of weekends and it can be a fun family project once you learn how to build your own solar panels and wind energy turbines.

Now is the Time for Roof Wind Turbines

Has the time really come where the world could be potentially self sustainable in terms of its energy supply and demand? Well sadly the answer to that is, not yet. However one step closer to achieving this is roof wind turbine power. Roof wind turbine models have been on the market for a number of years now but they are really coming into age as they are becoming more efficient, cheaper and easier to install.

Previous roof wind turbine models were overly bulky, not highly efficient and quite limited in their operating conditions. The period of time to pay back these models in regards to the money you would save using them was extremely long due to their cost to buy and install. Taking into consideration their maintenance costs this pushed the return period even further back. The newer roof wind turbine models can usually be installed by a good electrician and a far less costly.

Wind turbines are a booming industry. Who really wouldn’t want to be independent from the Grid. It makes sense in so many ways. The roof wind turbine market only makes up a small share of this market but it is growing in leaps and bounds as people wish to take the renewable option to save money and help the planet.

Older model turbine products had a payback period of about 20 years, due to their high cost to buy, install and maintain. With the developments in technology costs and payback period have been cut in quarters.

The government currently has an incentive program for small scale wind power systems. You will get a 30 percent discount for a roof wind turbine with a capacity under 100 kilowatts. This is currently running until Dec. 31st 2016.

Traditionally wind turbines had to be attached to a tower. First the tower needed to be erected which was a problem in itself as it had to be approved by council as well as strong enough. This also added to the cost. With advances in the engineering of the latest wind turbines they are able to be attached directly to a roof eliminating the need for an eyesore of a tower.

Traditional wind turbines relied on gears and a gearbox to create the electricity. For a traditional wind turbine it takes a wind of 7-8mph just to overcome the resistance of gears. This resulted in a loss of up to 25% in efficiency. Modern designs have replaced gears with hubs and bearings. Instead of a gear box magnets are now used to generate electricity. This has also added to the efficiency of modern roof wind turbine devices. Other advances in efficiency include larger wind acceptance areas and replaceable blades as damaged blades will reduce their effectiveness.
